Since the first millennium B.C. weapons and tools were forged in iron.
This was a very valuable metal due to the difficulty of its extraction and the first findings, especially in Greece and Etruria, date back to the years between 1000 and 700 B.C.
The Middle Age is the most peculiar period for the forged and wrought iron, from this time, thanks to the mingle between the barbarians that utilized iron only for their weapons and the refined roman civilization, this metal became the favourite for embellishment and furniture.
A typical severe and geometrical style spread in Germany meanwhile in France the wrought iron was utilized for railings, window grilles and banisters. This production lasted until the 18th century.
A more classical style spread in Italy during the Middle Age and the Renaissance but in the period between the 19th and 20th cent. the production became more simple and almost poor.
